Szkoła Podstawowa nr 314 im. Przyjaciół Ziemi (Poland)

We are a primary school called “Friends of the Earth”, located in Warsaw,  the capital city of Poland. The school is situated in one of the biggest cities in the European Union. We have approximately 900 students. Our school has received “Green Certificate”, which is awarded to schools from Poland being very successful in increasing the pupils’ knowledge of environmental issues as well as promoting and enhancing the pupils’ sustainable development. We have been promoting healthy lifestyle and trying to change eating habits of our students for almost a decade and we are very successful in it. Yet there is much to be done in the field of teaching and bringing up our students. Since our society has changed a lot parents and educators need to find new approaches to upbringing as well as teaching to help children become successful, self-confident and self-reliant members of a modern society. What is more, a growing number of our students have learning and behavioral difficulties and therefore we need to turn our attention to discipline and democracy being two very important aspects of the teaching-learning process. We want our students to develop their study and social skills and that is why teachers and parents should support democracy and restore discipline. We also hope that taking part in this project will give our students a possibility to share their knowledge and experience with students from other counties. What is more, we are eager to increase the students’ knowledge and understanding of other cultures. Taking part in this project will give our students an opportunity to learn about other cultures, customs and traditions. Our students will also have a chance to make lasting friendships.
