Kardelen Ortaokulu (Turkey)

Kardelen İlköğretim Okulu  was  built in 2003 after the big earthquake in Yalova city. At present there are 327 pupils on roll, organised in 15 classes with 27 teachers .It is located in the housing zone built  for the families who lost their houses in the earthquake. It is in a socio-economic disadvantaged area.
As checking the profile of students, most of the students come from nearby villages which do not have  schools and there are  many students who have such problems as divorced parents, unemployed, refugee families, being exposed to violence and adoption. So the effects of these problems they have been living can be seen on pupils’ psychology, success in the school, briefly in all their lives. Also two children are disabled in our school.
In these various circumstances, our students have been acquired some solidarity to create a friendly school by going away from their troubled life. With all these social diversity, there is an exact point that our pupils are open to be educated as global citizens. By means of our project, we can provide beneficial opportunities for our students about not only accepting and respecting the differences but also having a feeling of  belonging to European community.
